Thirteen Things about KAREN!!!

1. When I was a kid, about 6 or so years old, we had a house that we rented out. Well, one set of renters left and destroyed the house and stole things like the tv, the stove, etc. My dad was complaining about these renters, going on and on about those "colored" people and how bad they were. I asked him what color they were? I didn't understand "colored" people; were they purple? green? blue? Why haven't I seen any of these "colored" people around town before? He never told me what he meant by that. I am sure I had probably seen black people before, but didn't know what he meant.
2. When I was a little kid, my older sister would take me around town with her, and one time I accidentally called her "Mommy" and she must have turned bright red and I must have thought that was funny, because after that when we would go out in public, I would be sure to call her "Mommy" again until it didn't phase her anymore.
3. I have a cassette tape of my dad and me when I was a kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old and we had inherited a parrott that could talk and sing. It was my dad talking to the parrott and me talking and laughing and the parrott singing and talking. It's name was Polly and it would say, "Polly want a cracker" among other things. It would sing scales up and down, "La la la la la la laaaaa."
4. A new memory from just yesterday: My daughter was opening her birthday presents and older son was reading her cards to her. He read the one from me and Dad, and she looked at me and said this, "MOM! That was SO NOT Beautiful!" And it cracked me up, really.
5. And today, she was playing with her new Spyrograph and I said that maybe I could use it sometime, and she said no, I would have to just get one for MY birthday! Can you believe her?! The girl is 5!
6. I won a trip to Vegas on the radio a few years ago, and they are doing it again, so I will see if I can win another trip to Vegas! Wouldn't that be cool? Now that we have been there once, we would kind of know what to expect this time. If I win again, that is.
7. I WAS going to make this a TT of childhood memories, but they are not coming to me right now, so I guess it is just another random list of 13 things, if I can even think of that many things anyway!
8. Okay, I am a hairdresser you know, and you know how when you get YOUR hair cut, and you feel all itchy around your neck and you feel like you still have hair on you, or maybe you go home and shower right away to get it all off? Well, we have to be there all day long with hair in our clothes in places you wouldn't even imagine. Except I'm going to tell you now. There is hair in our shoes, socks, bras, etc. We feel itchy all over for the whole day that we are there! Usually, I like to come home and shower off too.
9. If a hairdresser is ever murdered, there will be so much DNA all over them, that it might never get solved! Ever think of that?
10. One time a customer came to the store on a motorcycle and another stylist asked him what size it was, and I piped in, "MEDIUM!" Looked medium to me?
11. Did I tell you that my walking routine will start on Monday when the kids go back to school? Well, it will! I plan to walk on M-W-F every time, weather permitting, and that just means if there are no lightning storms going! I will walk in the hot weather. Now, ask me later to make sure I do keep this promise. I am worried that I will not do it! I don't trust myself! I know me!
12. I can see my own backside in the mirrors at work, and let me tell you, THAT is NOT MY ASS! I don't know who's ass it is, but it better get out of here! I WILL get my old butt back! I have my iRiver (iPod wanna-be) all ready for walking!
