New Hair Salon??

So, I am thinking about having my own hair salon.  I was thinking about it before and got depressed about thinking that it wouldn’t work, so I quit thinking about it.

Then I caught some of a presentation by the “Rich Dad”(www.richdad.com ) on a public channel, and he encouraged me!  He encouraged me to invest in something that is my “genius”.  Or to find my genius, like Tiger Wood’s genius is on the golf course, et.al.  And I figure that my genius is cutting hair because I have tried other things, really I have.  I have an AAS in Fashion Merchandising, and that didn’t get me very far, I tried drafting with AutoCad, but didn’t get far enough in school with that.  I tried computer programming in college, but it stressed me out and forced me to take smoke breaks or chocolate breaks, both of which were no good for me.  I worked in retail and realized that that wasn’t going to get me anywhere.  I am at my best when I am doing hair, because people generally like me, so they talk to me or listen to me tell them a funny story all while making them look better!

And hair salons all have their own rules, some of which I don’t agree with.  Many of them want the stylist to learn how to cut hair THEIR WAY!  I do not agree with this.  Each stylist has their own way of doing things, some may be similar, but all are unique, and that is a great quality to have!  I think it is STUPID to make a stylist learn how to cut hair only one way and think that is the best way to do things.  Each client is UNIQUE also!  That is why they get called “chop shops” ! 

I want to own and run a salon that lets each stylist be unique.  I want to have a hair cut only salon, with no chemicals such as perms and colors.  I want customers to be able to come in and get out without spending their whole day waiting in line.  I may even have a self-serve coffee table!  That sounds great!

I just don’t know if I will be able to get a small business loan.  But I have one thing going for me:  I am a woman, which makes me a minority, and they like to help out women small business owners, right? “ They” are the people with the power to give me a loan.

  Just thinking, my 20 year class reunion is coming up (I’m not going) and if I went all I could say is I have a nice family and I am a hairdresser.  Big whoop.  Wouldn’t it be more fun to say that I have a nice family (because I love that part) AND that I own my own hair salon and it is doing great?  Maybe for the 30 year reunion.  Do they have 30 year reunions?

  There is a great location being built up near my town that would be perfect for a new salon!
